🌿 Robust Growth & Unique Aromatic Properties

Bacopa Purple is a famously hardy and adaptable species. Unlike many delicate colorful plants that are prone to melting during parameter changes, this variety possesses sturdy, thick stalks and a resilient cell structure. An interesting characteristic of this plant is that when its leaves are crushed or trimmed, it releases a pleasant, clean citrus-mint aroma.

As a steady-growing stem plant, it serves as an excellent natural biological filter, actively drawing dissolved nitrates and organics from the water column to help maintain pristine water clarity and suppress algae. Its robust stalks and wide leaf pairs generate a perfect, low-stress climbing grid and sheltering zone for dwarf shrimp, snails, and small community fish.

🛠️ Lighting, Temperature & Maintenance Guide

  • Lighting Requirements: Medium-High to High (Full-Spectrum LED). While it can survive and remain a healthy light green under lower light, high-intensity full-spectrum lighting is mandatory to trigger and maintain its signature purple and violet pigmentation. Provide a stable photoperiod of 8 to 10 hours daily.

  • Temperature Parameters: Incredibly resilient and temperature-hardy, maintaining stable health across a very broad range of 18°C – 26°C (64°F – 79°F). It tolerates slightly cooler water exceptionally well.

  • Substrate & Fertilization: Can be grown in plain gravel with liquid dosing, but thrives best when anchored in a nutrient-rich aquasoil or supplemented with regular root tabs. Regular dosing of liquid iron and micronutrients is highly recommended to enhance and lock in the deep purple hues.

  • Propagation & Trimming: Propagation is effortless—simply snip the top 3 to 4 inches of a mature, healthy stem with sharp aquascaping scissors and press the cutting directly into the substrate. Regular trimming of the top canopy stimulates the plant to shoot out side branches, forming a much thicker, bushier cluster over time.
