A major advantage of Pomacea bridgesii is that it will absolutely never eat or damage healthy, live aquarium plants. Its mouthparts are only designed to scrape away soft, dead organic tissue and detritus, making it perfectly safe for high-end aquascapes, delicate mosses, and soft carpet flora. Lighting Requirements: Highly Adaptable. They do not require specific lighting for their health. However, full-spectrum LED fixtures make the deep, dark purple and midnight tones of their shells stand out beautifully, especially against vibrant green flora.
Temperature Parameters: Prefers a stable tropical range of 20°C – 28°C (68°F – 82°F). Higher temperatures within this range increase their activity and growth rate, but slightly shorten their overall lifespan.
Water Chemistry & Shell Thickness: Requires a pH range of 7.0 – 8.0 and medium-to-hard water parameters (gH above 8, kH above 4). Providing hard, alkaline water is critical to supply the essential dissolved calcium required for healthy shell growth, keeping their dark armor thick, smooth, and free of structural pitting or erosion.
Aquarium Escape Caution: Mystery Snails are notorious for climbing out of the water to explore or lay eggs. It is highly recommended to keep a tight-fitting lid on the aquarium and leave a 2-inch gap of air between the water surface and the top frame to prevent any accidental falls.
