🌿 High-Density Foliage & Natural Water Purification

Cabomba caroliniana is a remarkably fast-growing species that excels at building dense, bushy underwater forests. When provided with stable conditions, its delicate fan structures sway gracefully with the filter current, adding a dynamic sense of depth and motion to large aquariums.

Due to its rapid growth rate, it operates as a powerful biological filter. It aggressively absorbs dissolved organic compounds, ammonia, and nitrates directly from the water column, naturally outcompeting and suppressing nuisance algae blooms while heavily oxygenating the environment. Furthermore, its maze-like leaf matrix serves as an elite, low-stress nursery and foraging sanctuary for delicate shrimp, growing fry, and timid community fish.

🛠️ Lighting, Temperature & Maintenance Guide

  • Lighting Requirements: Medium to High (Full-Spectrum LED). To keep its feathery fan whorls tightly packed and prevent the plant from stretching thin or dropping its lower leaves, medium-to-high intensity full-spectrum lighting is required. Provide a stable, uninterrupted photoperiod of 8 to 10 hours daily.

  • Temperature Parameters: Remarkably hardy and versatile, maintaining optimal cellular health across a wide tropical and temperate range of 18°C – 26°C (64°F – 79°F). It tolerates cooler water exceptionally well, ensuring stable growth rates.

  • Substrate & Fertilization: While it draws a massive amount of nutrition directly from the water column through its fine foliage, anchoring it in a nutrient-rich aquasoil or supplementing with high-quality root tabs ensures strong root establishment. Regular liquid micro-fertilizer dosing keeps the fans a crisp, vibrant green.

  • Propagation & Trimming: Propagation is incredibly straightforward—simply snip the top 4 to 5 inches of a healthy, robust stem using sharp aquascaping scissors and press the cutting directly into the substrate. Frequent trimming of the top canopy forces the lower nodes to shoot out multiple side branches, creating a significantly thicker bush.
