🌿 Vibrant Pigmentation & Beginner-Friendly Nature

What makes Ludwigia palustris 'Super Red' a certified bestseller is its uniquely forgiving and hardy nature. Unlike many delicate crimson plants that require advanced setups and strict parameters to prevent melting, this species adapts easily to a wide variety of water conditions. Under high-intensity lighting, it becomes incredibly compact, shifting into a deeply saturated blood-red hue.

As a remarkably fast-growing stem plant, it serves as an excellent natural biological filter by rapidly absorbing dissolved nitrates and organic waste directly from the water column. Its dense, bushy growth habit after pruning creates an ideal, low-stress nursery and secure foraging sanctuary for shrimp, growing fry, and small nano fish.

🛠️ Lighting, Temperature & Maintenance Guide

  • Lighting Requirements: Medium to High (Full-Spectrum LED). To unlock its true, blinding "Super Red" genetic potential, medium-to-high intensity full-spectrum aquarium lighting is required. Under insufficient light, the plant will fade to a reddish-green hue. Provide a stable photoperiod of 8 to 10 hours daily.

  • Temperature Parameters: Exceptionally versatile and temperature-hardy, maintaining stable health across a broad tropical and subtropical range of 18°C – 28°C (64°F – 82°F). Avoid sudden environmental shocks to ensure continuous growth.

  • Substrate & Fertilization: Can be grown successfully in plain gravel with water column dosing, but thrives best when anchored in a nutrient-rich aquasoil or supplemented with regular root tabs. Regular dosing of liquid iron and micronutrients is highly recommended to keep the red pigments intensely saturated.

  • Propagation & Trimming: Propagation is incredibly simple—just snip the top 3 to 4 inches of a mature stem using sharp aquascaping scissors and press the cutting directly into the substrate. Frequent trimming of the top canopy stimulates aggressive side-branching, turning a few single stems into a massive, thick red forest.
