Lighting Requirements: Highly Adaptable. The snails do not have specific lighting needs. However, medium-to-high intensity full-spectrum LED lighting is recommended to naturally stimulate the growth of healthy biofilms and micro-algae, keeping your cleanup crew well-fed while making their deep red shell colors pop dramatically.
Temperature Parameters: Thrives best and maintains active grazing habits within a stable tropical range of 22°C – 26°C (72°F – 79°F). Avoid sudden temperature shocks.
Water Chemistry & Shell Longevity: Requires a pH range of 7.2 – 8.2 and moderate-to-hard water parameters (gH above 8, kH above 4). Dissolved calcium and essential minerals are critical to support strong, healthy shell growth, keeping their brilliant red coloration thick, glossy, and completely free of erosion or structural pitting.
Aquarium Escape Caution: Like all nerite species, Red Racers are excellent climbers and may occasionally venture above the waterline or attempt to explore outside open-top aquariums if water quality drops or food becomes scarce.
