🌿 Color Grading & Biological Filtration
The beauty of the standard Rotala rotundifolia lies in its highly adaptive color transitions. In low-to-moderate tech aquariums, it maintains a clean, vibrant yellowish-green lower foliage with soft pinkish tips. When placed under high-intensity spectrum lighting and iron supplementation, the upper canopy gracefully shifts into warm pink and subtle orange hues, creating a beautiful natural gradient rather than a solid blocks of color.
As a remarkably fast-growing stem plant, it acts as an outstanding biological filter. It aggressively absorbs excess dissolved nitrates and phosphates directly from the water column, heavily aiding in suppressing unwanted algae blooms. Its dense, bushy growth habit after trimming provides an ideal, stress-reducing shelter and foraging zone for shrimp, growing fry, and timid nano fish.

🛠️ Lighting, Temperature & Maintenance Guide
Lighting Requirements: Medium to High (Full-Spectrum LED). While it can survive and remain a lush green in low-light environments, medium-to-high intensity full-spectrum aquarium lighting is recommended to trigger its beautiful pink and golden-orange tips. Provide a stable photoperiod of 8 to 10 hours daily.
Temperature Parameters: Exceptionally resilient, maintaining optimal cellular health across a wide tropical range of 20°C – 28°C (68°F – 82°F). Avoid sudden environmental shocks to ensure continuous growth.
Substrate & Fertilization: Can be grown successfully in plain gravel or sand with liquid dosing, but thrives best when anchored in a nutrient-rich aquasoil or supplemented with regular root tabs. Occasional liquid iron dosing ensures the pink tops remain vibrant and prevents pale growth.
Propagation & Trimming: Propagation is incredibly simple—just snip the top 3 to 4 inches of a mature stem using sharp aquascaping scissors and press the cutting directly into the substrate. Frequent trimming of the top canopy forces the lower nodes to shoot out multiple side branches, creating a significantly thicker cluster.
